Charlie Hunter and Lucy Woodward

The groove here is sublime and it’s something built from the smoke in Woodward’s voice and the feel in Hunter’s playing.” – OffTheTracks

A short-term “accidental tour” in 2018 has become a career-transforming partnership for guitarist Charlie Hunter and vocalist Lucy Woodward. Both artists have an affinity for older blues, funk, and jazz and their slinky reinterpretations of hits by Blind Willie Johnson, Bessie Smith, and Nina Simone have already resulted in an impressive debut album, Music!Music!Music! Hunter is a certified guitar star, specializing on the seven to eight string guitar, who has played for everyone from Norah Jones to John Mayer. Smoky voiced jazz/pop chanteuse Woodward has backed up Rod Stewart and Pink Martini, as well as collaborated with Snarky Puppy. But on their own, they create what AllAboutJazz describes as “torch songs with a kick,” an incendiary showcase of true musical passion. These jazz/blues soulmates have amazing onstage chemistry and their TD JazzFest debut shouldn’t be missed!
