The band Avataar brings in rich soundscapes reminiscent of vintage Pat Metheny but with the addition of South Asian percussion.” Jazz Weekly

JUNO Award-winning Toronto-based world-jazz group Avataar features some of Canada’s finest jazz, world, funk, and pop musicians. Their most recent sophomore album, Worldview, was released in 2021 to critical acclaim, and won a 2022 JUNO Award for “Best Jazz Album (Group).” The music is inspired by the deep musical traditions of India, Africa, and Brazil, rooted within the framework of modern jazz. In an

innovative marriage of ancient and modern, driving dance grooves intersect with cinematic atmospheres and soaring melodies to create a fresh, emotive sonic experience. Avataar has been making original music together for over ten years, and continues to develop a national and international  reputation. Don’t miss their performance at TD JazzFest 2024! Sundar Viswanathan saxophones/flute/vocals, Laura Swankey vocals and effects, Michael Occhipinti guitar, Rich Brown bass, Ravi Naimpally tablas, Max Senitt drums/percussion
