“Elysia is already capturing international audiences with her unique voice, authenticity and artistic depth coming from a jazz background.” – Dr. Clemens Trautmann, President of Deutsche Grammophon
25-year-old Vancouver Island-born, Los Angeles-based vocalist and songwriter Elysia Biro blends classical technique with modern pop songwriting and live-off-the-floor jazz instrumentation. A Master’s of Music graduate from the University of York, Biro cites jazz and folk luminaries such as Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald, Norah Jones, and Joni Mitchell among her greatest influences. Much like her contemporaries Laufey, Olivia Dean, and Lizzie McAlpine, Biro has developed a devoted online fanbase. Notably, her “Transcription Tuesday” series has amassed praise for her technical ability to hear an existing piece of music and rework it on the piano. Now signed to Universal Music Canada, which Deutsche Grammophon falls under as well, her upcoming debut EP Running From Nothing is scheduled for release in April 2026. Biro’s 2026 TD JazzFest appearance marks her first featured billing at this festival. Audiences who value lyrical nuance and contemporary Canadian jazz songwriting will not want to miss this homegrown artist’s ascent. Experience one of Vancouver Island’s own at the height of her creative powers.
