LowDown Brass Band

Friday, July 22 | Hermann's Upstairs | 9:00pm

“Their mix of second-line horns with hip-hop and reggae rhythms can make any venue feel like a delightfully sweaty street parade.” Chicago Reader

Chicago-based LowDown Brass Band is a constantly evolving collective of horn musicians and a uniquely strong representation of the windy city’s music culture. Describing their sound as “free brass,” this talented ensemble leans heavily on dancehall and street beat rhythm, with the energy of conscious hip-hop, funk, jazz, reggae, and soul. Following an ambitious project titled LowDown Sounds, LowDown Brass Band is now touring their seven-member band with Anthony Evora (AKA MC Billa Camp) to support their 2022 release, LowDown Nights. This new record exemplifies LowDown’s goal to build something new in the genre, combining aspects of contemporary hip-hop with conventional brass.

Experience LowDown Brass Band at Hermann’s Upstairs for a fun night of high dance energy full of redefined, horn-heavy hip-hop!  Shane Jonas trumpet/vocals, Sam Johnson trumpet, Andrew Zelm trombone, Matt Davis trombone, Lance Loiselle sousaphone, John Barbush drums
